We Love Bookstores

Every month we are awarding $500 to a bookstore to use for promotion or marketing or hosting book signing events.

UPDATE (1/1/2017): The Board has approved the extension of this program through 2017 and has raised the award to $500 going forward.

Entering could hardly be easier.

To enter: simply complete the entry form. Be sure to include a photo of one or more of your staff holding three books for sale in your bookstore -- books that are written by Sisters in Crime members. You can find a list of our members who are authors by clicking here, or by navigating to our top menu drop-down menu and look under Resources --> Author Search.) There's also a scroll line of members' books on the bottom of our homepage to get you started.

What happens then? After the random drawing on the first business day of the month, the winning bookstore will be contacted. Those not successful in one month will automatically be entered for subsequent drawings. There is no cost or obligation other than allowing us to post winners' photos on our website and InSinC, the Sisters in Crime quarterly (you can see older back-issues at

We welcome photos of bookstore staff receiving the check from a representative of a local SinC chapter and/or photos of any promotional event that may have resulted from the award. You can send them to  WINNERS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO HAVE AN EVENT FOR SISTERS IN CRIME.

Below you will find photos of our latest winners. We'd like to highlight Village Square Booksellers in VT who taped the check presentation and author panel. Click the link to view:

Restrictions: Only bookstores located in the United States may enter the drawing. This funding must be used for promotional expenses that support authors by encouraging the sale of books. It may not be used for salaries or basic operational expenses.

If you have Sisters in Crime author mysteries on your shelves we would love for you to enter this drawing. We at Sisters in Crime LOVE bookstores and want to see them thrive.

"So with your lovely gift of $250, we had a 'mug shot station' built by one of our staffers' talented husbands. The sign I'm holding will hang on the display when it's in use as a display (at each 'foot' level there is a small shelf to display books. We'll write event dates and authors on the sign for an in-store display, and we'll take a mug shot of every mystery author who comes to sign. We love it - hope you do, too! Thanks again, Jill Miner"
